Educational Science Book Recommended For Curious Minds - Book Review

What do you know about science? Would you like to know more? Would you like your children to grow up with a background of science knowledge? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then let me recommend a very good book for you:
"The Scientist - Life Science Library Series" by Henry Margenau, David Bergamini and the Editors of Time Life Books - 1964.
This book is jammed packed with information and historical scientific pictures including the cover which features James D. Watson, the co-discoverer and Nobel Prize winner for his work in DNA. Indeed, even with all the pictures this work is quite serious and the introduction is written by the former President of the National Academy of Sciences, Frederick Seitz.
The book has chapters on Human Beings and Biological Symmetry, the instruements that help us give science meaning, method and accuracy, explanation of the scientific method, the various areas of science in an ever expanding tree, communication in science, futuristic predictions based on science and the impact science has made on civilization, society and the future of humankind.
This educational science book takes us from before there was consensus of the world being round to the understanding that our own make-up and DNA determine more than we had ever dreamed. The reader is introduced to physics, chemistry, mathematics, astronomy, social sciences, life sciences, and the ever popular Earth sciences as well. The diagrams and pictures show man's progress and science and predict its future.
Who is the book for? The whole family and anyone who has ever dared to dream or wondered how we got here with all our technology in the computer age, thus, I recommend this educational science book to all.

Easy Elementary Science Projects - Air In The Soil Science Experiment

Doing easy elementary science projects need not be kept only for science fairs. There are many good reasons why you and your kids should do science experiments all the time.
Here are a few of those reasons:
  1. It gives you and the kids the opportunity to spend some quality time together
  2. Kids love exploring and it is good to use this natural curiosity to teach them basic science without them even noticing.
  3. Science experiments using easy to obtain supplies are also very suitable for homeschoolers.
Our easy elementary science project for today falls in to the category of "fun." It is a very simple experiment and the kids will be able to do it with very little help from you. You will have to supervise though; otherwise you will have a big mess on your hands!
To start, explain to the kids that the earth consists of rocks, sand, humus, water and air. This is all the "ingredients" necessary for life on earth. Plants, animals and humans all need them in order to be able to survive. In our science project we are going to have a look at soil. We are going to find out how much air is trapped in different kinds of soil.
What you need:
  • 5 Small clear jars
  • Water
  • 5 Soil samples from different kinds of soil (go exploring with the kids to find samples in different places)
  • Labels
  • A pen
  • A notebook
What you have to do:
  1. Fill your jars halfway full with your soil samples. One kind of soil into each jar.
  2. Mark each jar with a name that will help you remember which soil you placed in which jar.
  3. Fill the jars with water until they are almost full.
  4. Now observe what happens.
  5. You will see that bubbles start rising to the top of the water.
  6. Can you explain why there are more bubbles in some of the bottles than in others?
  7. Make notes of all your results, it is also a good idea to take photos of your result if you are doing this as a science fair project or as part of your science lessons for homeschooling.
You will note that the soil that is the most tightly packed will have less air in it than for instance a soil with lots of humus, taken maybe from a flower bed. Do you think plants grow better in well aerated soil or in soil more densely packed? This can be the subject of a later easy elementary science project. Have fun!

Green Technology - A Method To Protect Our Planet!

Living in this 21st century has forced people to get involved in the clean technology that is known as the Green Technology. This technology is the blend of environmental science and latest technology to protect the environment and resources to alleviate the bad impact of human action on the earth. green technology is focused on best development that is not only done to the planet, but also to make our business more productive. It is a great approach to bring great innovations that can bring changes to our lives. It is in a progress to dominate services and products that do safeguard the planet, but also fulfill the needs of consumers. The growth of "Save the Planet" awareness has brought some great development and researches in technologies that can make this earth a better place to live.
Goals of Green Technology:
Green Technology is the next generation method of our modern society because it is really damaging to use technologies those having bad side effects on our planet. Every living being depends on the planet to survive and look for best way for the future. For this it's our responsibility to care the earth and find methods to protect it. Greentech is the best alternative to conventional technologies and the best thing is that it brings positive effects to our earth. It's time to promote recycling and spotlighting on recyclable and reusable products. Waste and pollution reduction will help humans better and also will make the future better.
Lets here have some idea on different types of Green Technology:
• Power - This is the most imperative issue that needs to interfere by green technology. Fossil fuels, oil production are some of the traditional way of power generation. This brings lots of pollution during combustion and extraction. Conventional power generation is the basic cause of air pollution that is dragging our planet to global warming and change of climate. Within no time fossil fuels will be depleted from our earth and there will be limited resources left for the human race. Therefore, adopting greentech methods should be our first priority and to develop renewable energy sources.
• Building - Construct and design buildings to preserve natural resources are also a wonderful way in greentech. Today, in the market you can get great products like building retrofits and blinds. These products will help to keep your home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
• Nanotechnology - Green Technology plans to expand novelty on the laws of nanotechnology.
• Favored Purchasing - Greentech believes to put techniques those are safe to the environment and have the slightest negative impact. Due to the huge amount of advancement, there are many companies those have launched eco-friendly products and services.

The Importance of Technology and Technology News in Day to Day Life

21st century is a century of technological advancements. One cannot think to live without technology in this era. From children to youngsters and from old men to everyone; we are using technology in one way or another. Whether it is about turning on your room's light or moving from one place to another, we are using technology. People living anywhere on earth are using it for their comfort and ease. Apart from the aspect of comfort, one cannot ignore the fact that technology has also increased the performance of daily activities too.
Now you can travel faster and reach your destination in a very short span of time. The same technology is used to treat diseases that were not curable few decades back. Students use it to have the latest information, business corporates use it to make lives better; thus, this is a world of technological advancements and one cannot ignore them in anyway.
In this era, when we are so much dependent on technology, it is important to add here that we also need to keep ourselves up to date. For instance; if you are an internet user for 10 years and have not updated yourself with the latest trends, it would mean you are still not using the technology to its full strength. But how to get those tech related updates?
Many online websites and news agencies have been doing a lot to keep their audiences and readers up to date with the latest trends that are taking place on daily basis. The journey of computer turning into laptop and then iPad is one bright example of this fact.
But have you ever thought why don't you understand that famous website's tech news? The reason is that they use very professional and advance language in their news updates. So does this mean that tech related news is not for you? No it is not that! Technology news is for everyone. It is just that we have to find the right website. There are many websites doing this job in a fabulous way, you only need to search more. A good tech related website has all news updates in most simple and reader friendly manner so that even a newbie can understand. It is for this reason that these websites earn a worldwide repute.
Apart from just using simple language, a good website also understands the significance of technology in general and computer technology news in particular.

The Pros of Indian Education System

Opinions are divided over whether the Indian education system is good or bad. There was an interesting discussion on CNBC TV recently about whether the education system in India is getting better than the one we have in the US. According to a participant, Bob Compton, the executive producer of the documentary, "Two Million Minutes", American schools are losing their edge. According to him, Indian and Chinese students are better both in terms of quality of education and creativity. The curriculum of Indian universities is almost the same as the US universities.
Bob had hired students from India for a group of six American IT companies, and according to him, he got the best talent from India. These were high wage and high technology jobs. There were more than 200 openings in these companies in the US for computer programmers and the salary for these positions ranged between US$100,000 and US$200,000. Bob was not able to find suitable candidates in the United States for almost six months, which led him to go overseas for hiring.
However, Jay Mathews, the education reporter for the Washington Post, had different opinions. According to him, there is a tiny slice of Indian and Chinese technical schools providing quality higher education. He said that the US schools are as good as the educational institutions anywhere else in the world, and only the bottom 30% of US schools in rural and urban areas are in trouble. According to him, nearly 40% of the US high school students do not take science classes beyond biology.
According to Jay, the political system in China and social system in India generally discourage creativity. During this discussion Bob asked Jay as to when was the last time he visited India or China. Jay answered that it was more than 20 years ago. Bob was quick to point out that things had radically changed since then. "The picture is entirely different from what it used to be 20 years ago," Bob said. At present, the education system in India is superior to that of America, and the Indian system is churning out four times as many students at the K-12 level as compared to the US.
High Number of Students With Quality Education
In the US, the number of students at the K-12 level is around 53 million, whereas this number is as high as 212 million in India. So, Bob concluded that hundreds of thousands of Indian students are getting better education and are raising their cognitive skills. According to him, the dropout rate of Indian students is around the same as that of the United States. According to Bob, he was able to hire the best talent from India. These candidates were more creative and educated as compared to the candidates available in the US.
Even if we think that Bob's perception of the Indian education system is based on a tiny slice of students, especially those from IITs and IIMs, etc., we can't deny the fact that the Indian education system is constantly improving. At present, India is competing with the best education systems around the globe. However, much remains to be done to improve the standard of education in the Indian educational establishments "other than" the top colleges.

Traveling As a Part of Education

Education involves not only reading books and doing exercises, but also attaining knowledge through doing something practically. In other words, practical experience is a part of education. In this sense, since traveling adds to our experience and knowledge base, it can safely be considered a part of education.
In this connection it must be said that traveling has, roughly speaking, two purposes: acquiring experience and pleasure. But it must be emphasized that in both the cases knowledge comes from traveling.
As far as the education-traveling nexus is concerned, we can aver that traveling should be made statutory for students. If this is done, then it will be a part of education. It has, however, a number of benefits. These are enumerated below.
Firstly, what we learn from our textbooks needs to be verified in light of reality. If this is done, then the knowledge earned from books becomes practicable. And if this is to be achieved, then there must be sufficient opportunities for traveling such as education tour or excursion.
Secondly, there are some subjects which cannot be taught or learnt from textbooks. Geography, history, and some branches of science fall in this category of subjects. For the sake of perfect knowledge in these subjects, students must be inspired and patronized to go on education tours.
Thirdly, education without pleasure becomes, in most of the cases, prosaic and ineffectual. The processes of education in which recreational facilities are in-built, therefore, prove to be most effective.
The other side of traveling as a part of education should not in any case be overlooked. This is, it involves the question- Is it really affordable by the students? The answer, regrettably, will be in the negative in most of the cases. If traveling is, for instance, made an essential part of education, then, to be sure it will be a great burden on the guardian of poor countries. The consequence will be that only a minority of students will be able to avail themselves of the opportunity of acquiring perfect knowledge on the related subjects, while majority of them will be deprived of the opportunity. This poses a great problem on the decision maker as well as the whole educational system.
But it is not that such a problem is totally unsolvable. To make the extracurricular activities like traveling more effective, it should be programmed in a limited way within a limited budget. Also, educational institutions as well as the government should come forward to help students in this regard with reasonable amount of financial assistance.
Therefore, it is advisable that all educational institutions around the world take sufficient care to include traveling in the overall educational program ensuring the eager involvement of the majority of the students.

The Science of Getting Rich, I Have My Vision Now What?

If you are working through "The Science of Getting Rich," Then you start with a vision that encompasses all of your senses. If you stop there you just engage in wishful thinking. So what is next? The formula is in this simple quote from the book:
By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it.
Hold this idea as you practice the ideas from the book and you will activate the law of attraction. Here are the next two steps:
1. Continue to nurture the vision: "Hold the faith and purpose of increase," Wattles says, in the book. Don't allow your thoughts to slide back on circumstance or on anything but your vision, your compelling future. If contrary thoughts creep in you must replace them with thoughts of your future.
Some find it helpful to use words like: "cancel, cancel" as many times as necessary to cancel those conflicting thoughts. Cancel conflicting thoughts, then bring your focus back again to the vision that you have established. It is necessary to keep your mind in the NOW. Record the ideas that come from the visions.
2. Begin to take action: The vision is formed and nurtured, and your mind is focused on the now. This will begin to drive your actions; it will stimulate you to your best. But this is only the beginning. Out of the "Thinking Substance" which "permeates" the universe and which makes up everything will come ideas and plans. These will bubble into your consciousness and lead you to specific actions that will move you to the fulfillment of your vision. Recall the quote we began with: "By thought, the thing you want is brought to you; by action you receive it." These ideas and plans are the specific actions for you're to receive the thing that is brought to you. Again from chapter 12 of "The Science of Getting Rich:"
Whatever your action is to be, it is evident that you must act NOW. You cannot act in the past, and it is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act in the future, for the future is not here yet.
Hold with faith and purpose the vision of yourself in the better environment, but act upon your present environment with all your heart, and with all your strength, and with all your mind. As you begin to live life this way you will find new energy and joy. The visions are expressions of your soul and will form into actions and then into physical reality.
"The Science of Getting Rich" is a call to action. Actions of the soul, actions that are natural, and actions that are a part of you. Work yes, but work that is out of you, work that brings you to your dreams and not just work done for money or for someone else; rather it is the kind of work that will bring you joy and your good result.
